I baked this apple oat celebration cake for my dog Luna’s birthday last fall. The apples softened into the oats, and she ate the first piece without hesitation.
Homemade Apple Oat Cake for Dogs
This dog-friendly cake is made with oats, apples, and a hint of cinnamon, creating a deliciously moist and healthy dessert. The preparation time is relatively quick, and it serves as an ideal treat for dog birthdays or special occasions.
Ingredients
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1/4 cup honey (optional)
- 1 cup grated apple (peeled and cored)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup water (as needed for batter consistency)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the rolled oats, cinnamon, and baking powder.
- Add Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the applesauce, yogurt, honey, grated apple, and egg. Stir until well blended.
- Combine Mixtures: Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until fully combined. If the batter is too thick, add water gradually until the desired consistency is achieved.
- Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until the cake is golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool completely before serving to your dog. You can top it with additional yogurt or pieces of apple for decoration if desired.
