I baked this double layer birthday cake for my dog Oliver’s birthday last weekend. The two layers made the cake impressive, and he ate the first piece before I could take a photo.
Delicious Double Layer Birthday Cake for Dogs
This double layer cake is made using ingredients like whole wheat flour, peanut butter, and applesauce, creating a moist and flavorful cake that dogs will love. The recipe takes about 1 hour and serves multiple pups, making it perfect for parties or gatherings.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/2 cup natural peanut butter (no xylitol)
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup honey (optional)
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt for frosting (optional)
- Carob chips or dog-safe decorations for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 8-inch round cake pans.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and baking powder.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the applesauce, peanut butter, water, honey (if using), and eggs until well combined.
- Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
- Bake the Cakes: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Frost and Decorate: Once the cakes are completely cool, you can frost them with plain yogurt and top with carob chips or dog-safe decorations, if desired.
- Serve: Cut into slices and serve to your pup. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
