Peanut Butter Apple Cake Dogs Will Beg For

I baked this peanut butter apple cake for my dog Milo’s birthday last weekend. The peanut butter and apple made the kitchen smell like a candy shop, and he sat by the oven until it was done.

Homemade Peanut Butter Apple Cake for Dogs

A homemade dog cake featuring peanut butter and apples, garnished with apple slices on a rustic table.

This cake features a moist blend of peanut butter and apples, creating a delicious and nutritious treat for your dogs. The recipe takes about 45 minutes to prepare and bake, and it yields one 9-inch cake that can serve multiple tail-wagging portions.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup natural peanut butter (unsweetened and xylitol-free)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup milk or water
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup diced apples (ensure seeds are removed)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened shredded coconut (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the peanut butter, applesauce, milk or water, and the egg. Mix until well combined.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the flour and baking powder. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just incorporated.
  4. Fold in Apples: Gently fold in the diced apples and shredded coconut, if using.
  5. Pour and Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Once completely cool, slice and serve to your furry friends. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
