I baked this peanut butter berry cake for my dog Luna’s birthday last weekend. The berries burst into the peanut butter, and she ate the first piece without hesitation.

This Peanut Butter Berry Cake features a moist, soft texture that your dog will adore, while the combination of peanut butter and berries offers a tasty and healthy treat. It takes about 1 hour to prepare and bake, and serves 8 dog-friendly slices.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup natural peanut butter (unsweetened)
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1 ripe banana, mashed
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup blueberries or chopped strawberries
  • 1/4 cup water (if needed)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Optional: Carob chips for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, mix the whole wheat flour and baking powder until combined.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, combine the peanut butter, honey, mashed banana, and applesauce. Mix until smooth.
  4. Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. If the batter is too thick, add a little water until it reaches a cake batter consistency.

  6. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool: Allow the cake to cool completely before serving.
  8. Decorate: Optionally, add carob chips on top for decoration before serving to your pup.
