Salmon Pumpkin Celebration Cake Packed With Goodness

I made this salmon pumpkin celebration cake for my dog Oliver’s birthday last month. The salmon flaked into the pumpkin, and he ate the first piece without hesitation.

Easy to make, this cake is a healthful option for dogs that love both fish and vegetables. It’s packed with vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids, making it beneficial for your dog’s coat and overall health.

This delightful Salmon Pumpkin Celebration Cake for dogs features a moist base made from canned salmon and pureed pumpkin, mixed with eggs and whole wheat flour for a perfect texture. The recipe is simple and takes about 30 minutes to prepare and bake, serving up to 8 small dog servings.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (about 14 oz) canned salmon, drained
  • 1/2 cup pureed pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon or a dog-safe frosting for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a small cake pan.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the canned salmon (with liquid), pureed pumpkin, eggs, olive oil, and water. Mix until well combined.
  3. Add Flour: Gradually stir in the whole wheat flour until a thick batter forms. If using cinnamon, fold it in at this stage.
  4. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Cool and Decorate: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely. Frost with a dog-safe frosting if desired before serving.

I store the cake in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days since fish spoils quickly. Oliver gets a small slice as a treat, and the cake usually lasts us two days.
