Beef & Pumpkin Layer Cake Every Pup Will Love

I made this beef and pumpkin layer cake for my dog Oliver’s birthday last month. The pumpkin balanced the rich beef, and he ate the first piece without hesitation.

Homemade Beef & Pumpkin Dog Cake Recipe

A layered beef and pumpkin cake for dogs, frosted with yogurt and decorated with dog-friendly treats.

This cake features layers made from ground beef and pumpkin puree, ensuring a tasty and nutritious option for your dogs. It takes about an hour to prepare and bake, serving as a delightful celebration of your dog’s birthday or any day you wish to pamper them.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup canned pumpkin puree
  • 1 cup ground beef, cooked and crumbled
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt (for frosting)
  • Dog-friendly decorations or treats for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 6-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix the Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, applesauce, cooked ground beef, eggs, and water. Mix until well combined.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the whole wheat flour, baking powder, and cinnamon if using.
  4. Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  5. Bake: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool the Cakes: Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. Frost and Assemble: Once cooled, place one cake layer on a plate, spread some yogurt on top, then add the second layer. Frost the top and sides with remaining yogurt.
  8. Decorate: If desired, top with dog-friendly decorations or treats before serving.
