Spinach Banana Cake With Hidden Healthy Ingredients

I made this spinach banana cake for my dog Milo’s birthday last month. The spinach hid in the banana, and he ate the first piece without noticing the greens.

Perfect as a homemade dog food recipe, this cake serves as an excellent dog cake recipe that your pet will love. It’s simple to prepare and can even be customized with additional dog-friendly flavors.

Healthy Spinach Banana Dog Cake Recipe

Healthy Spinach Banana Dog Cake decorated with peanut butter, with dog treats around it.

This dog-friendly cake combines ripe bananas and fresh spinach, providing essential vitamins and minerals. The recipe takes about 30 minutes to prepare and bake, resulting in a tasty cake that can serve as a treat or a special occasion delight for your dog.

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 cup fresh spinach, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup coconut flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter (dog-safe)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a small cake pan (about 6 inches).
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the mashed bananas, chopped spinach, applesauce, peanut butter, and egg. Mix until well incorporated.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients: Gradually stir in the coconut flour and baking powder until just combined.
  4. Adjust Consistency: If the batter is too thick, add water a little at a time until you reach a pourable consistency.
  5. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth out the top. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving to your dog.
