Lamb & Blueberry Cake Full of Wholesome Flavor

I made this lamb and blueberry cake for my dog Oliver’s birthday last summer. The blueberries burst into the lamb fat, and he ate the first piece without hesitation.

Healthy Lamb & Blueberry Cake for Dogs

This dog cake features tender lamb and nutritious blueberries blended into a moist and flavorful cake that is both healthy and tasty for your canine companion. It takes about 30 minutes to prepare and bakes in approximately 25-30 minutes. This recipe serves 8 small dog portions.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup cooked and shredded lamb
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup mashed blueberries (fresh or thawed from frozen)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt for frosting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded lamb, applesauce, vegetable oil, and egg. Mix until well combined.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour and baking powder.
  4. Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Gently fold in the mashed blueberries.
  5. Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool and Frost: Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan before transferring it to a wire rack. If desired, spread plain yogurt on top for frosting before serving.
