I made this banana coconut cake for my dog Oliver’s birthday last month. The banana and coconut made the kitchen smell like a bakery, and he sat by the oven until it was done.
Delicious Banana Coconut Cake for Your Dog
This dog-friendly cake is made with ripe bananas, unsweetened coconut, and a few simple ingredients that are safe for canine consumption. The recipe yields a soft, moist cake that’s perfect for celebrating special occasions or just treating your pet any day of the week.
Ingredients
- 2 ripe bananas, mashed
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/4 cup peanut butter (dog-safe, xylitol-free)
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch round cake pan.
- Mix the Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the mashed bananas, applesauce, and peanut butter until smooth. Add the egg and mix well.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, shredded coconut, baking powder, and cinnamon (if using). Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. Let it cool completely before serving to your dog.

I keep the cake covered in the fridge for up to three days. Oliver gets a small slice as a treat, and the cake usually lasts us four days.
