I made this banana carob cake for my dog Luna’s birthday last month. The carob made the cake look like chocolate, and she ate the first piece before I could frost it.
Easy Banana Carob Dog Cake Recipe
This Banana Carob Cake features moist banana and rich carob, combined to create a flavorful treat that is safe and healthy for dogs. The baking time is approximately 30 minutes, making it a quick and easy recipe for any dog-loving baker.
Ingredients
- 2 ripe bananas, mashed
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup carob powder
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/4 cup unsweetened peanut butter (ensure no xylitol)
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 cup water (as needed)
- Carob chips or dog-friendly icing for decoration (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch round cake pan.
- Mix the Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the mashed bananas, applesauce, and peanut butter until well combined.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, carob powder, and baking soda. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients until just combined.
- Adjust Consistency: If the batter is too thick, add a little water until you achieve a pourable consistency.
- Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Decorate: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. Once cool, decorate with carob chips or a dog-friendly icing, if desired.

I keep the cake covered in the fridge for up to three days. Luna gets a small slice as a treat, and the cake usually lasts us four days.
