Pumpkin Pear Cake Dogs Will Lick Clean

I made this pumpkin pear cake for my dog Luna’s birthday last month. The pears softened into the pumpkin, and she ate the first piece without hesitation.

Easy Pumpkin Pear Dog Cake Recipe

A dog-friendly pumpkin pear cake topped with slices of pear, on a wooden table with a dog looking on.

This dog-friendly cake combines the richness of pumpkin and the sweetness of pears, making it a tasty and healthy option for your pet. The recipe takes about 45 minutes from start to finish and produces one cake, which can be served in slices.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pure pumpkin puree
  • 1 ripe pear, peeled and diced
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter (dog-safe)
  • 1/4 cup water (if needed for consistency)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, diced pear, eggs, and applesauce until well mixed.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking powder, and cinnamon.
  4. Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. If the batter is too thick, add water a tablespoon at a time.
  5. Add Peanut Butter: Gently fold in the peanut butter, ensuring it’s evenly distributed in the batter.
  6. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. Let it cool completely before serving to your dog.
