Chicken & Kale Cake Perfect for Nutritious Treats

I baked this chicken and kale cake for my dog Luna’s birthday last weekend. The kale wilted into the chicken, and she ate the first piece without picking around the greens.

This delightful cake is made with ground chicken, fresh kale, and wholesome oats, baked to create a moist and flavorful treat for your dog. Ready in about an hour, this recipe yields a single cake that can be sliced into pieces for serving.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups ground chicken
  • 1 cup finely chopped kale
  • 1 cup whole oats
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Optional: dog-friendly frosting for decoration (like Greek yogurt or peanut butter)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a round cake pan.
  2. Mix the Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, chopped kale, oats, eggs, apple sauce, chicken broth, and baking powder. Mix until well combined.
  3. Bake the Cake: Pour the mixture evenly into the prepared cake pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until cooked through and golden brown on top.
  4. Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan before removing. Slice into pieces and serve to your dog. If desired, decorate with a dog-friendly frosting.
  5. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
