I made this heart-shaped dog cake for my dog Oliver’s birthday last month. The heart shape made the cake look special, and he ate the first piece without hesitation.
Homemade Heart-Shaped Dog Cake for Dogs
This heart-shaped dog cake features dog-friendly ingredients such as peanut butter, applesauce, and whole wheat flour, ensuring a moist and flavorful treat. The recipe takes about 1 hour from start to finish and serves 8 small dog servings.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/2 cup peanut butter (unsweetened and unsalted)
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 cup honey (optional)
- Dog-safe frosting or yogurt for decoration (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a heart-shaped cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
- Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and baking powder. In another bowl, mix together the applesauce, peanut butter, water, and honey (if using).
- Combine: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until fully combined.
- Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Decorate: Once cooled, you can frost the cake with dog-safe frosting or yogurt, and feel free to add dog treats on top for extra decoration.
- Serve: Cut the cake into slices and serve it to your furry friend, making sure to store any leftovers in an airtight container.

I keep the cake covered in the fridge for up to three days. Oliver gets a small slice as a treat, and the cake usually lasts us four days.
