I made this lamb and blueberry cake for my dog Oliver’s birthday last summer. The blueberries burst into the lamb fat, and he ate the first piece without hesitation.
Healthy Lamb & Blueberry Cake for Dogs
This dog cake features tender lamb and nutritious blueberries blended into a moist and flavorful cake that is both healthy and tasty for your canine companion. It takes about 30 minutes to prepare and bakes in approximately 25-30 minutes. This recipe serves 8 small dog portions.
Ingredients
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 cup cooked and shredded lamb
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/2 cup mashed blueberries (fresh or thawed from frozen)
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt for frosting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch round cake pan.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded lamb, applesauce, vegetable oil, and egg. Mix until well combined.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour and baking powder.
- Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Gently fold in the mashed blueberries.
- Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Frost: Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan before transferring it to a wire rack. If desired, spread plain yogurt on top for frosting before serving.
