I made this pear oat cake for my dog Luna’s birthday last month. The pears softened into the oats, and she ate the first piece without hesitation.
Healthy Dog Cake Recipe
This Pear Oat Cake combines the natural sweetness of pears with oats to create a soft, moist treat suitable for dogs. It’s simple to make in about 30 minutes and results in a delightful cake that serves several treats for your beloved companion.
Ingredients
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup unsweetened apple sauce
- 1 ripe pear, finely chopped (seeds removed)
- 1/4 cup peanut butter (ensure it’s dog-safe, without xylitol)
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- 1/4 cup water (as needed for consistency)
- Pet-friendly frosting (optional, for decorating)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a small cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
- Mix the Ingredients: In a bowl, combine the rolled oats, apple sauce, chopped pear, peanut butter, and egg. Mix well until fully incorporated. If the mixture is too dry, add water gradually until you reach a cake batter consistency.
- Pour and Bake: Transfer the mixture to the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Frost: Once baked, remove from the oven and allow to cool completely. If desired, you can frost with a pet-friendly frosting before serving.
- Serve: Slice the cake into portions and serve as treats for your dog. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

I store the cake in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Luna gets a small slice as a treat, and the cake usually lasts us three days.
