Sardine Power Cake Packed With Healthy Goodness

I made this sardine power cake for my dog Luna’s fourth birthday after reading about the benefits of oily fish. The sardines mashed into the batter, and she ate the first piece before I could take a photo.

Wholesome Sardine Cake for Your Dog

This cake features sardines, whole wheat flour, and eggs, creating a delectable treat that is both tasty and healthy for your dog. The recipe takes about 30 minutes to prepare and serves several pups at a time.

Ingredients

  • 1 can of sardines in water, drained
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter (unsweetened, no xylitol)
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt (optional for topping)
  • 1/4 cup shredded carrots (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a cake pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the drained sardines, eggs, and peanut butter, mashing them together until well mixed.
  3. Add the whole wheat flour and rolled oats, mixing until a thick batter forms. If using, stir in shredded carrots.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting with plain yogurt, if desired.
  7. Slice into portions and serve as a special treat for your dog.
