Summer Fruit Dog Cake Perfect for Warm Days

I baked this summer fruit dog cake for my dog Max’s July birthday last weekend. The watermelon and berries kept the cake cool, and he licked it until it was a puddle on the patio.

The Summer Fruit Dog Cake is made with healthy ingredients like oats, applesauce, and a variety of fruits. This recipe is easy to follow and takes about 30 minutes, serving as a refreshing dessert for your dog.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (ensure it’s xylitol-free)
  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 1 banana, mashed
  • 1/2 cup diced strawberries
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut yogurt for frosting (optional)
  • Fresh fruit slices for decoration (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, combine whole wheat flour and rolled oats.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix applesauce and peanut butter until smooth. Add the mashed banana and stir to combine.
  4. Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture and mix until well combined. Gently fold in blueberries and diced strawberries.
  5. Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread evenly. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool the Cake: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Frost and Decorate: If desired, spread coconut yogurt on top of the cooled cake and decorate with fresh fruit slices. Serve in moderation to your dog.
