Venison & Blueberry Cake Worth Every Tail Wag

I made this venison and blueberry cake for my dog Luna’s birthday last month. The blueberries burst into the venison, and she ate the first piece without hesitation.

This Venison & Blueberry Cake is formulated specifically for canine palates and includes ingredients that benefit their health. The cake takes about 1 hour to prepare and bake and is perfect for special occasions or everyday treats.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup ground venison
  • 1/2 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth (low sodium)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for added sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground venison, applesauce, chicken broth, and eggs. Mix well until evenly combined.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking powder, and cinnamon. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  4. Fold in Blueberries: Gently fold in the blueberries until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  5. Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve as a special treat for your dog, and store leftovers in an airtight container.
