Delicious Bacon Sweet Potato Cake for Dogs
This dog-friendly cake combines the savory flavor of bacon with the natural sweetness of sweet potatoes, offering a nutritious twist that your pup will love. The recipe takes about 1 hour to prepare and bake and yields a generous cake to share.
Ingredients
- 1 cup mashed sweet potatoes, cooked and cooled
- 1/2 cup cooked crumbled bacon (reserve some for topping)
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/4 cup peanut butter (make sure it’s xylitol-free)
- 1 cup whole wheat flour (or gluten-free flour if needed)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 cup low-sodium chicken broth (or water)
- 2 large eggs
- Optional: chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch round cake pan with non-stick spray or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes, cooked bacon, applesauce, and peanut butter. Mix until well combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the sweet potato mixture, alternating with chicken broth and eggs. Mix until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
