Delicious Pumpkin Banana Layer Cake for Dogs

Pumpkin Banana Layer Cake for dogs with peanut butter frosting and dog treats on top, surrounded by a playful dog.

This delightful layer cake combines the wonderful flavors of pumpkin and banana, creating a soft and moist cake that is not only delicious but also healthy for your dog. The recipe can be prepared in about an hour and yields a cake that can serve multiple pups at a doggy party.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1 ripe banana, mashed
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup dog-friendly peanut butter (for frosting)
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (for frosting)
  • Optional: Dog-safe treats for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, mashed banana, and applesauce until well blended.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the whole wheat flour, baking soda, and cinnamon.
  4. Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined to form a batter.
  5. Bake the Cakes: Divide the batter evenly between the two cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  6. Prepare the Frosting: In a bowl, mix together the peanut butter and Greek yogurt until smooth and creamy.
  7. Assemble the Cake: Once the cakes are completely cooled, spread a layer of the peanut butter frosting on top of one of the cakes, place the second cake on top, and frost the top and sides of the entire cake.
  8. Decorate: Optionally, you can decorate with dog-friendly treats to make it even more special. Serve the cake in slices and enjoy watching your dog indulge!
